Mississippi Today staff is working from home during the coronavirus pandemic.
We were planning to celebrate big in March, marking the fourth year since we published our first story. Instead, our newsroom is re-figuring the way we cover stories, listen to readers and deliver the news. We are also grappling with issues like how to keep our reporters safe and healthy while doubling down on our mission of public service journalism.
Our primary job at Mississippi Today is to keep you informed about what is happening in Mississippi. When the health, income and education of so many Mississippians is on the line, our mission comes with additional responsibility. We are committed to providing context, resources and trustworthy reporting on this pandemic for as long as necessary.
In a time like this, the importance of local reporting can’t be overstated. Our job is to ensure that all Mississippi experiences, challenges and solutions are given voice while keeping our readers and staff as safe as possible.
Still, our reporters remain on the front line of this public health crisis. Like other essential workers responsible for the flow of goods and services, our team continues to work hard to provide you with the information you need to understand and prepare for the situation at hand.
Below is a list of resources we have created and compiled to help you navigate these uncertain times. We hope you’ll use these to help keep you and your community informed on the coronavirus and its impacts on Mississippi.
We are honored to provide this critical service free of charge, but we can’t do it without your support.
Our reporting is made possible by readers like you. Donate right now by making a tax-deductible contribution to Mississippi Today. Your investment in our nonprofit newsroom is an investment in the health and well being of our state.
We know that good reporting and the accountability it inspires is a necessity Mississippi can’t afford to lose.
